For those of us who havent heard of you, could you tell us a little bit about what Laura Darrington Design is?

Laura Darrington Design are an award winning greetings card publisher based in Gilmorton, Leicestershire.
Graduating from Manchester Metropolitan in 2000, Laura set about turning a textiles degree into a beautiful product.
15 years & numerous awards later, Laura Darrington Design now sells into over 20 international countries, and has their products stocked in Waitrose, John Lewis, Paperchase & Harrods amongst others.

You pride yourself of being a sustainable and ethical company, what stimulated you practise environmentally friendly?

After receiving requests from a number of small independent gift shops for cards with no outer cello-bag, it became clear that there was a definite shift in consumer consciousness regarding the use of single-use plastic.
These small environmental changes were becoming ever more important, and when large multiples John Lewis & Waitrose announced they would only be selling ’naked’ cards at store level, we welcomed the change with open arms - becoming one of the first small publishers to offer greetings cards without a cello-bag.

And what have you done in response to this?

With this in mind we now offer our cards without their cello-bag, eliminating the need for single use plastic.

Using a Kard-Klasp we are able to still keep the card and envelope attached whilst not compromising on the design, and working to eradicate the production of single use plastic.
Whilst this is only a small step in keeping this planet as clean, its great to see large multiple retailers to whom we supply, now following suit.
Waitrose, John Lewis & Paperchase are all now pushing the ‘naked' greeting card as standard, which is excellent news.

To reduce our carbon footprint even further, we enlisted the help of BIDBI to produce an ethically sourced cotton Tote Bag, to give out at our most recent trade show, Glee.
We also distribute them out to our valued and loyal customers, reminding them that we all have an important role to play in keeping this beautiful planet in which we reside as pollution-free as we can.
