I’ve been at BIDBI two months now and feel like I’ve settled in well. Everyone in the office has been so welcoming and really helpful. I am taking over from Jess, who was on placement here last year and from what she has told me, working at BIDBI was a great experience.
I do a Textile Design course at the University of Huddersfield and I specialise in Print and Commercial design, which includes lots of practical work based in the print workshop. Aiming towards a career within commercial printed textiles, it is vital for me to get experience working within the industry which is why I decided to do a placement year, and thought BIDBI would be a great place to gain that experience. Sustainability is a big area within design, and with BIDBI being an eco-friendly company, I get to see for myself how it is being tackled within companies.
I work closely alongside Sam, the design manager, and Lucy; a new designer who has just been hired so it’s quite nice that we’re both in the same boat! My role as a design intern includes preparing artwork for production, printing samples, helping out with Doodle bag, and any other design-based tasks I get set. With the company being quite small, we all get involved and help each other out, so no day is the same. I really didn’t know what to expect but I’m looking forward to the rest of my time at BIDBI.
