We asked team BIDBI what they've been reading recently, and compiled a list of our favourite reads of recent memory.

Jen

Inside Vogue by former editor-in-chief Alexandra Shulman. Good so far but I don’t read much at home; I don’t get much time in between stalking Made in Chelsea people on Instagram (sad but true) 😉

My current read is a book called ‘Don’t be Sad’ by Aaidh ibn Abdullah al-Qami. The book itself is full of advice on how to have a positive and pragmatic approach to life, with Islamic teachings of how to deal with things that life throws at us. It’s a really positive and warming book that shows you nothing is ever as bad as you think.

Lucy

I’ve recently been reading Le Canard enchaîné – a satirical newspaper in France, I bought a compilation book of all the best bits from 2017.

Daya

When I get the time, I will always scour Twitter for the latest news feeds and sports updates … a bit sad, I know!!!

Gwyn

I've started looking into my family history with my mother dearie. We're going to join the Barnsley archive society to build on our current knowledge. Mrs Hollins dug out some old files and showed me a profile a illusionist society gave her about my great uncle tommy. He was a great magician who built all his own props and worked alongside a illusionist from Australia. He had the chance to travel the world but then ww1 broke out, so he served his country instead, and was the only man to return of his street.

Aside from reading cookbooks as if they are novels, I am not a strong reader. I seem to live and work with bookworms, each member with an extensive library full of words they’ve read or plan to explore next, but I’ve rarely found a book I couldn’t put down. Like, I made it a little less than half way through the Harry Potter series and was like “Naaaaah too many words”. I personally feel like my time could be better spent doing other things that interest me, if not one for trying.

Well what can I say? I’m a huge bookworm. Anywhere I go my Kindle comes with me so I can pick up where I left off on one of my thousands of books. I have a never-ending list of books to get through that just gets bigger and bigger. I always read romance books but I will give anything a try. Action, mystery, adventure. I also like to read arts and craft books especially Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year because they inspire me to pick up a paintbrush.

Richard

I been meaning to read 1984 for years now and I finally got round to it. The level of insight that George Orwell had is astounding and the book is a warning for the future that should be recognised by everyone.

Arnika

I’ve been reading ‘Prisoners of Geography’ by Tim Marshall. It talks about how much of the politics of a country is governed by their geography, for example, the reason China and India have for the most part had a fairly amicable relationship is because of the Himalayas which separates them. The massive mountain structure would make an invasion by either side impossible. I’ve been reading it for about a year and I’m only a third of the way through. It's super interesting but also quite confusing and really not a relaxing read before bedtime!
