This week we are doing work experience at BIDBI, helping out all the different departments throughout the week, and today it was the lucky marketing team that had our expertise. We decided to write about some easy ways you can all make changes to your lifestyles in order to benefit the environment and yourselves. Both of us are vegetarians and cycle fairly often, no we’re not hippies, we just know what’s good for the environment and good for us.

Ever hear about those scientists who say our planet is dying and it’s all our fault, yeah, thought so. Surprisingly, this is true and there are many ways to do your bit to prevent it; consequently, protecting the future for the younger generations. Therefore, making the earth a greener and healthier place to live.

5. Recycle

Yes, we’ve all heard about how recycling is good for the environment, avoiding plastics and anything non-recyclable, because these are sent to landfill and pollute the land and sea, killing wildlife, and our earth, is still important.

4. Walk or cycle more and use your car less.

Walking or cycling is an easy way to both cut down on your carbon footprint and shave off a few pounds. If you’re struggling to get to the gym or hate paying that extortionate membership fees, then help save the planet, and get those endorphins pumping and burn those pounds by walking or cycling locally such as to the shop or to work. You will also save money on fuel and by not burning those nasty polluting fossil fuels help make the air cleaner. It’s a win win.

3. Eat local foods and avoid meats

You know that steak on your mind right now? Yeah that one. As well as clogging your arteries up and sending you well on your way to high cholesterol, it is devastating for the planet. Huge swathes of the amazon rainforest are being cleared for cattle farming and guess where 20% of the earths oxygen comes from, that's right, the amazon. Eating exotic fruits and vegetables are also as bad as driving a big 7 litre V 12 in a 20 mph zone, the carbon footprint is immense when transporting these fruits from brazil to your local shop. You will also be supporting your local economy by using your local farm shops to buy produce.

2. Drink tap water

Bottled water- It’s cheap, it’s convenient and it’s destroying the earth every second. Bottled water, not so slowly but surely is destroying landscapes and wildlife due to the fact that only 1 in 5 plastic bottles are recycled meaning 4 in 5 are sent to large ugly landfills, taking up large amounts of space and causing more plastic to be made for more bottles causing more pollution which eventually leads to a whole host of health implications for you and me.  So next time you’re down sports direct buying some new trackie bottoms and they offer you a re-useable bottle for 50p, do yourself a favour and buy it to help save the planet.

1. Waste less water

The earth only has so much fresh drinkable water, which is continually recycled and has been for much of the earths lifetime, however with the population increasing there is more and more competition for a clean supply of water.

We’re not very good at using water efficiently, some tips on saving water are to; take faster showers, turn the tap off when brushing your teeth, only boil enough water in the kettle for what you need, get a water butt, if you have green fingers (and you aren’t the hulk) don't waste clean filtered drinking water on your plants, rain does the trick just fine.
