My First 3 Months at BIDBI by Olivia

3 months… has it been that long already? As the saying goes, ‘time flies when you’re having fun’.

As the new girl, I’m conforming to tradition and ‘attempting’ my first blog (it will soon become apparent in the following paragraphs why I chose numbers appose to linguistics!). Here it goes…

So after 3 years completing a BA (Hons) degree in Accounting & Finance, I found myself back in Sheffield, hungry and more then determined to find my first role in finance. Thankfully, after extensively searching the increasingly competitive graduate job market, I came across the advertisement for the position here at BIDBI. After researching the company and scrolling through the lovely website, it was certain that I was applying. The family-like feeling you get reading the blogs and the amazing ethos of the brand was more then enough to intrigue me! After completing my interview with Chris and Steve on the Wednesday, I was delighted to be offered the position and asked to start on the following Monday, for once in my life, excitement out did nerves when imagining my first day.

On the Monday I arrived and was greeted by a room full of warm smiles, I spent the day shadowing each member of the team, learning how each individual contributes to making this remarkable organisation just what it is. I instantly felt comfortable and accepted, as well as overwhelmed by everybody’s kindness and willingness to help me, it is safe to say, I caught the ‘BIDBI bug’ with both hands. Sitting down at my desk, Chris, our wonderful Financial Manager, began to show me the ropes.

It soon became apparent that this wasn’t your average graduate job, where you’re just a dot on a page in a big organisation and will spend the first year or two of your career staring at the purchase ledger alone day in day out (thankfully!). In my short time here, I have developed so much and gained more knowledge then I could’ve ever imagined, from Production Accounts to Budgets to VAT Returns, the list is endless and forever growing, and I couldn’t thank Chris enough for passing on all this knowledge, guiding me and always being patient. I remember in December, Chris went on holiday and left me to hold the ropes alone, I was so nervous, but really, the week went by without a glitch, he left me fully prepared and gave me all the confidence I needed to hold the finance fort for the week. Self-belief finally set in!

The BIDBI way is certainly unique, I don’t think you could ever realise how special this place is until you’re a part of it. Not only am I thankful to Chris for everything but, all of the office and our CEO, Julia, for welcoming me and making me feel valued. Not only have a gained a wonderful position in an amazing business, but I have also made some wonderful friends, gained so much knowledge, graduated and I get to work in an office surrounded by bags! It’s safe to say, I won’t be going anywhere else in a hurry.

Watch out world, the ‘BIDBI bug’ is contagious!
